I want to buy an entry level reflex, just to have fun with manual settings.

I don't need so much stronger stuffs, just plan to buy a solid tele in the future, for long-range shots, but for now a 18-55mm would be really enough.

The point is: Canon or Nikon?

Usually i do a little bit of everything with photos, from persons, to landscapes, to details (i would not say "macro", I simply focus on some details of what am looking).
But, usually, i do only two things:
-a reportage based upon a theme (what am doing, a specific point of view, a specific subject, etc)
-simply quick snaps of stuffs I like

What do you suggest?

Dont know about the brands but I can tell you this. The most important thing is the optics.

I did some of this for a job and this is what I found.

Generally hybrid lenses where you can go from macro to super tele give blurry results e.g. 30-300mm. Sensible values eg.g. 16-85 are good.

Static lenses give best sharpness but if you want to zoom, you have to use your feet.

For general purpose look for:

16-85mm or 50-200mm
f2.8
the physical size of the photo matrix. If the sensor is small then the images will be blury, lrage sensor means sharper images.

Apart from that it's your own preference

I'd buy one that takes pictures.

Nikon is better for capturing action (hence all sports journalists, photo journalists, reporters of some kind have them, with massive tele-lenses); Canon is for capturing less hyperactive stuff.

Canon is better at capturing real world colours, while Nikon makes them a bit less saturated (for the trained eye). So, Canon is better for portraits, landscapes, etc where the colour is most important.

I've got Canon 650D with 18-55 lens right now, planing to upgrade it to 18-135. I'd suggest you take this one. Or, if touch screen isn't a must, then Canon 600D

And don't be fool buying it new. Buy used, it's 300-400 E cheaper, even if the first owner had bought it a month ago new.

Also, take a look at both brands' user interfaces, both on the screen and around it - which one looks more intuitive, which one's buttons you know from far away what they're supposed to do, without going through the manual - this could be important in everyday use. For me, Nikon's buttons are like cargoship's dashboard, while Canon's are more intuitive, like car's dashboard :)

Thanks obi, so i think going for Canon is the better choice.

The only ones "moving" things i can capture are:
-kids in action
-moving ships (but they're as slow as they're standing still)

Ar them all good enough for night photoes?

I have the Canon 600d, I think it has one of the best price/performance ratio.

I've been shooting only up to 5 m at night, so I can't tell how the stock flash behaves.

How it is without flash? With several seconds of exposure?

A secluded spot, at night, where people park their cars and, exchange stuff.... Start there.
