Update:
I've got past the splash screen by renaming the Client.dll in mta/mods/races. However, I now get 'cannot load race mod' whenever i try to connect to a server and the solution they have posted in the forums doesnt work...
Edit: I should point out I'm using Vista home premium but like I said, GTA works fine...

It doesn't work, u can get the map editor to work by removing the client.dll ( and essentially removing the race module) but race is incompatible with vista.
Dual-booting ftw.

Why not just use XP anyway?
I have Vista on my laptop and it looks very nice but takes up lots of your memory and many things are not compatible. I had to intall the HP Printer drivers and download abour 500mb from HP's site just for Vista. It's a new Printer which wasn't made long ago and yet again, they know that many people use Vista and still provide the XP discs lol.
That's right. If you remove the Client.dll file, only map editing works. I have tried many things to try and make it work like reinserting the file whilst MTA is running but still, no luck. I would just downgrade to XP or if you really like Vista, just Dual-Boot (thats if you know how to).

Don't know how to dual boot and the comp I bought was an ex-display so I'm a little reluctant to reformat (haven't even had it 24 hours!). I have plenty of ram (3gb) so I don't have to worry about Vista taking too many resources.
Ahh well, I guess I'll have to wait until they have finished off the DM mod and get round to making the race mod compatible with Vista (unless I can be arsed to set my computer up again - just plugging in cables but it's a heavy beast and I'm too lazy to pick it up and put it on my desk). Until then I shall represent SKC to the best of my abilities in the new mod (anyone gonna be joining me trying it out?).
One question, are we gonna be converting the DD server to DM, getting a new server or just leaving it as is?
