|
|
Edit: so we didn't come to a conclusion so lets get a poll up and see what the response is
I was talking to HT yesterday regarding the ability to allow users to download maps from the website. The functuality is already more-or-less done - it was the intention from the start - but I removed it from the final version of the site because I was going to ask you lot if you thought it was a good idea. And then I forgot.
You wouldn't be able to get one big file with all the maps - each map that has an entry in the Maps section would have a button for you to download it.
Map downloading would only be available to registered users of the site (you could go one step from that and say that only SKC members would be able to download them, but I think this is pointless). For clan wars the other team would be able to download the maps themselves rather than having to nag me or Whiskey, but then you could say that they could have the opportunity to practice on our maps beforehand (though I think it's a silly idea having a war where you don't know half of the maps, but that's my opinion )
Just trying to cover some of the areas that might be discussed, but I'm sure there's more reasons for and against this. So lets talk about it If there isn't a clear decision made afterwards then we'll use a poll.
Dave

I dunno, the maps r our "sellingpoint" imo. Y would we wanna make that publicly available?
Coca-cola doesnt publish its recipe either

I say keep any map made by a skc member private as it is teamskc's and the creators property and the servers main attraction/selling point. I also think skc members shouldn't have access to them, incase you get a rogue new member only after the maps for their own server. If the creator want's to make them public do so, but in a special category like "TeamSKC public Map's" . Maybe not, i dunno it's up to you lot.

Maps are made using freeware?, and released as such? It would just increase interest in MTASA, and this Website, Its not like we have much competetion, the more good servers that play our good maps, the more people in Total that will play MTASA, we dont lose anything, MTASA wins.
Who made the map isnt important, getting people to keep playing them is, raise awareness of MTASA, increase popularity of our server too
Think of it as "For the good of the cause"....or "Taking 1 for the team" :D:D:D:D

* Bump*
Yes it works, but for some reason the 'Download' button doesn't appear on some maps, such as this one: http://www.teamskc.co.uk/maps.php?map=Aeroport
Can you guys take a look at it?

That would be because the maps were never uploaded to the site in the 1st place but got into the testing pack and on to the gameserver through another channel.
I guess i can upload the mappack from the gameserver every month or so to "fix" this.
EDIT: Every map should be downloadable now, with the exception of Docki maps
btw, every map now is the version thats on the server and not the version submitted by the original uploader.
