Right, this is the story of my beloved laptop. A laptop modelled in the range of HP Pavillion DV6000.

I brought this about 9 months ago for a high price of *650 from Comet. Paying this price gave me a feeling that I will get what I want for my money and no shit will go wrong. It got delivered to my house the next day, fantastic. Delivery was A1 class. As quick as a concord.

I had this laptop for a good 3 months and no problems
untill...,
The devil strook. I, one day, woke up and got out of my bed. I brushed my teeth on a saturday. I had a cup of tea and chocolate digestives with M&S buscuits. I had a smile on my face about 15cm long. I was happy.
I turned on my laptop, like I had done for the past few months. I try connecting to the net. Hmm, opened Explorer. I was thinking, why can't I connect to the net. So I has this problem for say, 2 days. I wasn't happy at all. I knew there was a problem. So I picked up my phone and called HP customer service. They sorted me out a time for them to pick up my laptop from home and, they said, to fix it. I wasn't happy but it was for the best.

Ok, now I had my laptop back after a week in repair in HP's hands. So I use it again, just browse around, you know. Just play on the net and that. So I use it like I always do for the next 1/2 months. Oh no, I get a message saying that one of the drivers is not operating or functioning properly on bootup. I't annoys me, problems strike again. So I gave HP customer service a second bell refering to my problem. They booked in another day to take the laptop away for repair. I'm not very happy with my laptop at this stage. But again, it's the best for my laptop.

Now I have it back again. In my living room, using it and lost all of my programs as they formatted the whole drive. Programs meaning documents but no heavy illegal software used at all. I use it for another few months until...
..now.
I have another problem with my laptop. 3rd time! This is getting very furstrating. I am not a happy guy at this point. So I phoned HP customer service AGAIN! I spoke to them nicely. Keeping calm and holding my furstration inside my lungs. I said I am within my warrant as I am, as I have had this laptop for, say 9 months or so. I said I am not a happy chappy at all and I want my money back. I told them I might aswell get another HP but NOT THIS ONE. It has a devil in it! (i didn't say that, just my feelings obliterating me as I was pi**ed of at this stage). They said that they will take it in AGAIN to repair it. I was not pleased. So I told them I am NOT wasting my time. I USE this and I am not willing to take the 3rd chance,
They would not listen. So now I have wrote a letter explaining my problem with their product of what I purchased. This letter has been sent to the big-boss of HP's customer service regarding to my problem. This is wasting MY TIME. I need my laptop, do they understand? If somebody needs something in time, they should f**king listen!

Anyway, if you didn't want to read my shit, then just skip to this part.

The part of which I need to make a decision if I recieve my money back.
I have just seen this laptop but I am no the best person to ask of which is the best in specwise. I do want to go for HP as I have owned many things do to with them and my previous laptop which lasted a good few years.

I need some help or advice on if it is good or not. Feel free to comment and feel the needs to post any of your opinions on the choice I have made and if it's worth it.

There is one thing to notice.
* It mentions Dedicated graphics in the Specifications. It also says Nvidia GF8400M 64 MB This is a small mistake as I phoned them up as I spotted a mistake in the models specs and they said they'll change the mistake. It's supposed to be 128mb Dedicated graphics with up to 855mb shared graphics of the memory. (Thats what i've been told).
I don't mind paying the cash so just the problem of choice.

Like which brand/model in specific?
I just need it to be a fairly good spec and priced very close to the 650quid mark. I can't overspend by too much. If it's slightly cheaper, then great.

well in my opinion anything from HP is a no no. i really like the IBM T range, now known as lenovo. i have had the T40 and now have the T61p. yes the price is quite high but the build quality is unmatched, nothing falls off and wobbles. it just stinks of quality and the performance is not the worst either

also u said u pain 650, if thats in Â£ then i think that will not buy you a really good laptop but rather a mid range, average day, normal person's laptop. if u looking to play games, watch movies, hoock up to HDTV then you really do need to cash out quite a bit

Have a look at some asus laptops. I have a m8 who runs his own "laptop for students"-shop and he says the asus's are the cheapest u'll find BUT strangely enough it r also the one's that hardly ever have to come back to the shop.

ye it looks pretty good.

Style: its a vaio, half their marketing is based around the fact its a stylish notebook.

Specs:
- cpu is fine
- 3gb of mem, vista wont use any more anyway so that fine as well
- HDD 250gb is pretty good for a notebook
- gfx card, 8400 with only 128mb dedicated is a bit shallow imho, should be enough for mta. Dont expect to be able to run crysis or COD4

Ok so I am about, or not very far away from buying this but...
I saw a laptop with this spec. It has some kinda HD graphics card.
(i'm learning too lol).
Apparently you need HD graphics to run HD games LIKE ProStreet or TDU for exaples. Ok I understand that, but will the Nvidia GeForce 8400M card be able to run games like TDU or ProStreet like this does? I just saw it on a TV advert and it had ProStreet laying on it, so I searched up on PCWorld.

So here is the story. I have had a few problems with HP send-back being very slow. I have sent off my new laptop to HP and then sent the DHL delivery receipt to them as they asked for it so they can return all of my money back but the assholes seem to have misplaced it. (idiots) Good job I had the original so hopefully my money will be returned by tomorrow and I thought to have changed my mind after visiting around PCWorld, Currys, Staples, Dixons, Comet for a good deal. I have found one (now from SONY).

Just asking a side question: Would anyone think 'NVIDIA 8400M GT 256MB' will be capable running TDU smoothly or not? This will not change my decision buy it would be nice to know.

Also spec-wise, any good?

BTW: That's not an Apple MAC I'm using for some who may think it is.

Just Apple 'Safari' browser for some who don't know.

I downloaded it by accident couple of days ago when it was updating iTunes but when I used it, I prefer it over explorer.

Anyway after all of that time, I have brought and this time purchased this laptop. HP did refund the cash and now I have gone back to HP as that Sony NR felt a little too plasticy and didn't have the finish the HP pavillion had.
It's only 120gb but I have a 250gb external which I brought for about Â£20 so memory is nothing.
It's also got an AMD Turion 64x2 with 2.0GhZ. That's mad lol.
BTW: It's a good price for a 256mb dedicated laptop tbh and for others who are looking for a laptop along with me. NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 256 Dedicated video graphics it's decent and Â£499 is pretty much as low as it could get. Currys ftw!
