|
|
It's the moment you've been waiting for! It's the moment we've been waiting for!
We're happy to announce a preview release of MTA: SA Deathmatch as a good start to the new year. As a new years resolution, we've decided to try much more frequent releases. We've said this before, but we've finally got a solid base to work from and a we're in a good position where you - the community - can give us valuable input.
The key emphasis of this initial release is to get your help in making MTA the mod you want. We're not going to be taking feature requests - initially, but we're want you to help to find bugs, create game-modes, maps, resource web pages and anything else you want! We're going to remain focused on fixing bugs until we have a release that we're happy to call a final 1.0 release.
There are a few things you should be aware of before playing MTA.
* Game-modes are of varied quality - some are very good, some could do with some work. Feel free to contact the authors if you're interested in helping with them.
* There are some bugs still! Please report them on the forum.
* There are some crashes too, not many. What remains are generally specific to specific game-modes. We've played for 3+ hours in busy servers with no crashes, but your milage may vary!
* We have not included the editor in this release, a few issues appeared just before we were going to release. We'll release it as soon as we can.

It does work on Vista. Which means I can go back to it too if we change the servers! Race and DM are on one client I think too

The race mode is bugged ATM so we'll have to wait for the full release as the MTA:DM progress rate is just too slow, but still we have to wait to see how the race is compared to MTA:SA which is much better ATM in my opinion.
Some bugs I noticed instantly (within 5 mins of play).
* When you are racing, the players who lag their wheels don't move and looks like they are driving sideways when they are driving on a straight.
It looks very wierd and very awkward when racing behind them. Basically, the sync is not as good as MTA:SA at all.
* You can't use controller (that really sux in race mode).
* DM sync is not much different to Sa-Mp.
* Spectator mode is bugged and you get a black screen at times.

So are we saying even with seperate gta installs, this will make race not work? Is it worth it? Is it any better than SAMP?
ATM I have 3 gta installs, should I bother?

I installed it on the same gta install as race is installed and it worked fine, haven't had a crash so far.

Server seems to be down...
That would be pretty f*cking great tho! 64 players WTF yoo
Altho its still a bit bugged atm it's good fun. The sync is pretty good. If we could have the different gamemodes on 1 server and get a few people and admins in, this could be sweet. I've played on GTAMP last night and we we're lolling all the way thru. Lets do this!!!!!!!
"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."

If you are having trouble running both Race and DM on the same machine, I've posted a method of how to do it here:

I havent found a way to set up a mapcycle either. Just turn on voting, so users can vote for a gamemode/map
The gamemode u've set now isnt working properly tho, it starts, u select ur team, but u just end up in non-landscaped world

Woopee, the server is up and running. It has assault and ctf on it. Its really fun to play and the sync is spot on most of the times.
Now lets start promoting it!
Dave can u post something on the frontpage plz, and maybe add it to the welcome msg in the other server?

Is it definitely working 24/7 without admin intervention to get it all started?

Personally I am not a fan of this MTA:DM as it is highly bugged (definately the race mode on it, and the non-control support).
I will go on the [SKC]DM server on MTA:DM to support it but won't be on it more than MTA:SA Race

UPDATE!
MTA: SA Deathmatch 1.0 Development Preview 2 - Wednesday 9 January 2008 (18:06)
We've been very pleased with the reaction to our first developer preview we released last week. We've had fun playing with some of the community and it's be great to see what people have got up to with our powerful scripting/mapping system!
We've spent the last week fixing issues that were in v1.0-dp1; some we knew about before we released and many were found by the community.
So, today we're releasing Developer Preview 2! As we said last week, we're focusing on fixing bugs, so all your new feature requests aren't in this release. That said, we've added a few new things to this release that you asked for - windowed mode for scripters being the most significant. We've also fixed about 17 bugs and made a few tweaks here and there and we've included some updated gamemodes and maps. A full changelog can be found on the download page.
The same caveats apply to this release as before - it's a preview. We know there are bugs, we know things are incomplete, but hopefully these previews give you a clearer picture of how things are now and give us a valuable source of feedback.
Please Note that if you're using v1.0-dp2, you can only play on v1.0-dp2 servers. We strongly recommend that all servers upgrade as this fixes some important servers issues (being able to ban players for example!)

The difference between dp1 and dp2 is quite amazing, especially in race mode and considering there was only a week or so between the two. The whole thing now feels good and doesn't so much have that unfinished feel (though there is still plenty more work to be done before we can be consider replacing our own servers with it).
Hopefully this weekend I will have time to look into the scripting side, as there are so many possibilities
