any chance of a 'lighter' skin for the site?

i dunno about anyone else, but are any of u getting fed up of the black background? it would be nice if we could choose between a lighter or this dark theme.
If you (bagpuss) dont have the time or energy to make one i'll have a go as i'm still off work with my broken hand. Just send me the images that need editing and the CSS to edit and i'll have a go?

Some stuff is hard-coded into the theme files which are in-turn linked to the PHP, so changing stuff is not easy. phpbb lets you change whole themes, but not simply swapping over a few images and css.

I am thinking of creating an extreme cut-down version of the site for use with mobiles, and in that case the background will be default white. Maybe when I overhaul the forums and upgrade to phpbb3 I'll try and make it easier to create new themes, but don't bank on it

No worry's, but surely all you'd need to change is the black to white and white text to black? Still keeping the orange and blue theme, And what wouldn't actually be able to be changed easily?

im not saying i dont like it, just i would prefer a lighter version, same style, same everything, just a light background with dark writing rather than this...

but all the same its just a suggestion, hence why its in this suggestions forum

Yeh. I'd think it's a good idea but what would be cool is if you could choose what theme colour you want in the corner of your screen (e.g. black, blue, red, orange, white..) and it changes the theme on the click. That can be done but I have never tried it. It can be done as I have seen this on some forums as all it does is changes the CSS to another template but as I said I have never tried it so I can't input on how to do this.

couldn't you just turn the bg of the topics lighter? even a lighter grey? i see you've got 2 colours alternating and from using phpbb b4 im sure you can quickly do that from the admin panel?

See the thing about that is having a light background is like staring at a lightbulb imo.

Put a pure black screen on then a pure white and see what fucks you eyes up more.

You should be able to activate the lighter background now by going to the 'Edit profile' link on the left and finding the appropriate setting. It's between 'Always enable Smilies' and 'Board language'

Imo it's revolting but if it makes it more legible then it's fine by me
